Program Notes
This piece was commissioned by the Ultraviolet Wind Quartet. Their modern-sounding name actually is inspired by one member’s dog, Violet. Never to miss a chance to compose joyful, whimsical music, I took Violet on a series of adventures, some real and some imagined. It is at times tender, playful, heroic, and a little ominous, but never fear: she will always make it back home, to receive all the love a good pupper deserves.
